Art Goes to School is an outreach program designed to introduce students in grades K-8 to the museum's art collection by bringing it into the classroom. Artwork is selected based on Maine history and industries, including logging, fishing, farming and shipping, as depicted by artists for the past 100 years. Museum education staff or docents visit the classroom for a 45-minute presentation, using poster reproductions of the paintings to lead discussions about the artwork and the artist. Presentations can be tailored to meet teacher's curriculum criteria whenever possible. Post-visit activities include vocabulary words, writing exercises and art activities. Please contact the Education Department at 207-594-4299 for more information. |
