Kids ages 7 to 11 are invited to build “upwards”—which will be this summer’s Artscape theme. Young artists will learn of the many ways that artists solve the problem of building up. Students will dive right into designing their own UP projects, develop and test their own constructs. Mini-field trips into and around the museum will provide additional inspiration toward discoveries about structure and form. Students will use various materials in their additive sculptures from found objects, modeling clay and wooden materials. Artscape will conclude with a gallery exhibit of “UP” works and reception for the artists.
Instructor Kathleen Gass studied drawing and fiber arts at the State University of New York and has been an art educator for the past 20 years.
