Vinalhaven artist and teacher Erica Hansen invites teens to consider art objects in relation to the individual that made them, the time they were created and the space they now occupy. By visiting the spaces that art is viewed locally in the Rockland area, students will develop a relationship to artworks as shared experiences rather than isolated objects. Using that dialogue as an impetus for play, participants will create their own artwork drawn from interactions with artists and artwork in their own community. The final product will be an online magazine where student’s critiques, interviews, reviews and original artworks will be displayed. Hansen completed her BFA at the Maine College of Art in 2000 and her MA in Arts and Education at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2008.
