In this one-day workshop, students will learn how to transform a common object, a single sheet of paper (or two), into an entirely new form with endless possibilities. In fact, some of the least known and most elegant books are simply pieces of paper folded together. Similar to origami, but more than just decorative items, these playful books are also useful. Structures taught include a classic lotus form, Hedi Kyle’s brilliant Blizzard Book, and a Swedish miniature book.
Instructor Alison Kuller studied bookbinding at the North Bennett Street School in Boston and worked as a conservator at Harvard University’s Widener Library. She currently runs a bindery, Three Stones Folios and her work is in numerous public and private collections.
