The Natural Thing to Do: The Music of Ann Wyeth McCoy

July 22, 2014
Tuesday, 6 p.m.
The Strand Theatre, Rockland
A film by Denys McCoy, Richard Rotert, Damon Sinclair, Cliff Sears
Narrated by Richard Chamberlain; Running time: 84 minutes

The talented spirit and story of music composer Ann Wyeth McCoy, daughter of N.C. Wyeth, is captured in this film. When as a young woman, her composition “Christmas Fantasy,” was performed by conductor Leopold Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra, little did she realize she would be on her way to a creative career all her own. The Natural Thing to Do magically unveils the emotional forces that inspired her compositions. She drew deeply upon the values learned from her famous father, her own remarkable story, and the people and landscapes that formed her passions. Filmmaker Damon Sinclair and several family members, including Anna B. McCoy will be on hand for discussion. This film is in conjunction with the exhibition Art of the Wyeths on view in the Wyeth Center (April 26 through November 16), which features a selection of works by various members of the Wyeth family, including Merle James, John McCoy, Henriette Wyeth Hurd, and Peter Hurd.
