Nightingale Free Performance by Figures of Speech Theater

July 27, 2010
Tuesday, 6 p.m.
Strand Theatre, Rockland
As part of Lincoln Center Institute’s Educator Workshop to be held at the Farnsworth this summer, the Figures of Speech Theatre will present a free public performance of Nightingale at the Strand Theatre.
This Freeport-based group uses original vocal music, live actors in flowing silk costumes, and four feet tall intricately carved puppets to bring to life Hans Christian Andersen’s classic story, Nightingale. This lush, dazzling full-stage presentation is well suited to audiences from six to ninety-six. Figures of Speech Theatre has performed throughout Japan, North America and Europe with performances that are enjoyed equally by adults and young people. In 1996 Nightingale played a successful Broadway run at the New Victory Theater in New York City and won the coveted “UNIMA Citation of Excellence,” the highest award in American puppet theater.
