Plein Air Painting on North Haven with Colin Page

August 13, 2012
Monday through Friday
North Haven
Join artist Colin Page for a week-long plein air painting workshop on scenic North Haven Island. The class will depart from Rockland via ferry and will stay at the beautiful Nebo Lodge, which will serve as base camp for the class. The goal of the week will be to improve oil painting skills through painting the landscape on site. In addition to painting such a beautiful Maine island, the group will also be sharing meals and have lots of downtime to discuss all of the aspects of painting, the creative life, selling art, and more. Instructor Colin Page hopes this workshop experience will be a fun painting retreat, perhaps even as much fun as summer camp! Colin says “I really enjoy these experiences, because I feel like I get to know everyone a little better, I can put everything I have into the class, and by the end of the week the class is growing together.”
As with all of Colin’s classes, he will focus on fundamentals of picture making and paint handling, with the goal of everyone taking their paintings to the next level. He will do demonstrations and have a daily lesson discussion. There will be lots of student painting time with individual attention, and at the end of the day there will be short critiques so that participants can learn from each other and share any new discoveries.
Instructor Colin Page studied painting at Rhode Island School of Design and Cooper Union, receiving his BFA in 2000. He shows at the Dowling Walsh Gallery in Rockland and at Courthouse Fine Art in Ellsworth. For several years Page has been living in Maine focusing on painting the landscape. He was the 2009 winner of the People’s Choice Award at the Door County Plein Air Festival and won 3rd place in 2010.
