Teachers and Schools

The Farnsworth Art Museum seeks to bring school children of all ages into the museum to experience and enjoy our beautiful collection of artwork and special exhibitions that celebrates Maine's role in American art. Tours are led by trained, dedicated docents and include age-appropriate activities that address Maine Learning Results and encourage students to experience the artwork at a deeper level. (For more information on school tour options, click on the button at left.) Travel assistance is available for those schools that have limited funding resources or that must travel from a great distance.

Our Art Goes to School outreach program explores themes of Maine history using the museum's permanent collection. The program uses color slides or 11 x 17 posters and includes information and discussion questions for the images and grade appropriate activities. A classroom visit by a docent can be scheduled to lead the activities or the materials are available for loan (click link for more information).

Teachers' packets contain valuable information about major permanent exhibits, including pre- and post-visit activities, artist biographies, and color slides or 11 x 17 posters (click link for more information). Available for loan.

Educators' workshops, usually offered in the fall, provide continuing education credits, lectures and hands-on projects suited to the classroom. (top)
