"I was twenty, and this was my "blue sky" period of brash watercolors with deep, almost exaggerated tones-using pure blues, purples , and browns out of the tube. I did these at Martinsville, Maine, for my second show at the Macbeth Gallery in New York City. In the first show my colors were bright but light. Now there's a deepness."
