The International Educator Workshop is for educators and arts administrators who are interested in learning about imaginative teaching and learning through aesthetic education. Participants will experience performances and visual artworks, guided by art-making explorations that have been designed by Institute Teaching Artists.
The works of art that will be studied during the International Educator Workshop at the Farnsworth from July 26 - 30, 2010:
Theater
Nightingale performed by Figures of Speech Theatre Nightingale is Figure of Speech Theatre’s exotic, musical adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story of the Emperor who is moved by the song of a plain gray bird until he receives the gift of a jeweled mechanical bird with which he becomes obsessed. The production gently stresses the importance of connection with Nature, and with the true essences of life. Nightingale enjoyed a successful Broadway run at the New Victory Theater, and is also a UNIMA Citation of Excellence winner (1996). Visual Arts Louise Nevelson exhibition at Farnsworth Art Museum The Farnsworth is making scholarships available to any Maine school teacher or administrator currently employed full time in a public or independent school.
As a follow-up for workshop participants, the Farnsworth Art Museum will offer dates in the fall for school groups to visit the museum, free of charge, and to see a theater performance, with transportation grants provided.
