Rights and Reproduction

 

The Rights and Reproductions Department at the Farnsworth Art Museum provides photographic material for educational use, research, commercial and non-commercial publications. All requests MUST be made in writing through the Rights and Reproduction office. Permission for such use is granted at the sole discretion of the Farnsworth Art Museum. All Requests Should Include the Following Information:
  • Applicant Name/Date
  • Organization
  • Address
  • Telephone, fax and email
  • Artist and title of work being requested
  • Author and title of publication
  • Description of publication use (Exhibition Catalogue, Book, Research, etc.)
  • Publisher or Journal name
  • Publication name
  • Print run
  • Photography needed (High-resolution digital image, 4 x 5” color transparency or 8 x 10” black and white print)
  • Deadline
 
Available Photography
The Farnsworth Art Museum offers high-resolution digital images, 4 x 5” color transparencies and 8 x 10” black and white prints for reproduction. 8 x 10” study prints can be requested for research purposes. Requested photography is subject to availability and new photography can be requested for an additional fee.
 
Request Processing
Once your request is received in writing, every effort will be made to meet your publication deadline. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for processing. If photographic materials are needed sooner, a rush fee may apply. Once the written request is received and following approval, a Rights and Reproduction Agreement and invoice will be sent. Payment and a signed Agreement must be returned before photography is released.   
 
Copyright Restrictions
Copyright for many works of art in the Farnsworth’s collection may be retained by the artist or designee and are protected by U.S. law. Permission must be granted by the owner of copyright and a written statement granting permission is required prior to the museum’s release of photography. It is the responsibility of the applicant to seek permission for use. For more information on copyright, please visit www.copyright.gov
 
Unauthorized use of images of works of art in the collection of the Farnsworth Art Museum is strictly prohibited. Images of the Farnsworth Art Museum’s collection may not be reproduced or published in any form without written permission from the Farnsworth Art Museum.
