A Pollinators’ Green Way Station
March 21, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
This presentation, featuring the Farnsworth Art Museum’s new native gardens, will explore the mission of the pollinator garden design, which extends to design opportunities for home and professional gardeners, urban-streetscape planners and native plant enthusiasts.
Irene Brady Barber is principal landscape designer of the ecological landscape horticulture firm Greenscapes Design in Durham, Maine. Irene’s sense of place and belonging lies within nature, especially within vegetated systems, whether in a Maine forest, a tropical rainforest, or an alpine tundra. Where there are plants that lead to diversity of many living organisms, there too is harmony for Irene. This deep connection to plants has led Irene to become a practicing and registered horticultural therapist (HTR), a trained professional who customizes plant-based activities that stimulate and support personal wellbeing to individuals who live with developmental, intellectual, emotional, or physical challenges. At Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Irene works full-time as an HTR, landscape design instructor, and horticulture education coordinator for gardeners and professional landscape practitioners.
