A Special Gallery Tour of Stories of the Land and its People

August 8, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Join museum curators and educators for a more focused look at some of the museum’s key summer exhibitions. All tours will depart from the main lobby, with the exception of the N.C. Wyeth: Poems of American Patriotism and The Wyeths: Family and Friends tours, which will meet in the Wyeth Center lobby.

Stories of the Land and Its People is a dynamic exhibition with art created by 4th and 7th grade students who used the art experience to study a variety of subjects including Maine studies, science, environment, poetry, geography, and more!  The exhibition includes interactive stations, digital work and touchable items created for visitors to enjoy.  The museum provides this arts in education program free of charge to Midcoast Maine schools.  It is led by Farnsworth museum educators in collaboration with teaching artists, classroom teachers and the students and is inspired by local fieldwork and the latest research from Harvard University’s Project Zero and Lincoln Center Education in New York.

This student exhibition is a small sample of artwork created by 162 elementary and middle school students who took part in the 2017-2018 Stories program.

The Arts in Education Program at the Farnsworth Art Museum thanks the generosity of the following organizations and individuals for their support of the program in the 2017-2018 School Year:  Arison Arts Foundation, Van Otterloo Family Foundation, Anonimo Foundation, Nellie Leaman Taft Foundation, Dead River Company, Bank of America Charitable Foundation, *Maine Arts Commission, Anneli Skaar, and an Anonymous Donor.

*An independent state agency funded by the National Endowment for the Arts
