An Artist’s Workshop at the Olson House with John Whalley

Christina and Alvaro Olson and their house were rich with meaning for Andrew Wyeth who drew and painted there for three decades. In this 3-day workshop, Maine artist John Whalley will explore the role that this historic house played in Wyeth’s creative vision, as well as offer instruction in pencil drawing and a demonstration of the technique of egg tempera painting, the techniques Wyeth used in his work there. The final workshop day will conclude with lunch and studio visit to John’s home and studio in Damariscotta Mills.

John Whalley was born in Brooklyn and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and received a BFA in Illustration. Over his near-forty year career he has worked in oil, egg tempera, watercolor, and graphite. He is represented by Vose Galleries of Boston and Greenhut Galleries of Portland. John’s work is in collections around the U.S., including the Georgia Museum of Art, the Colby College Museum of Art, and the Portland Museum of Art. See examples of his work at johnwhalley.com.
