Art Camp: Natural World and Illustration—Grades 7-9
July 22, 2020 @ 9:30 am – 11:00 am

Tuesday and Thursday – Grades 7-9
This two-day session, led by art instructor Jeremy Smith, is tailored for the young artist seeking expanded insight into nature’s array. During this session, artists will create work with a focus on:
- learning and practicing observational methods for illustrating nature’s clues with sensitivity
- gaining inspiration from connecting with the wonders of landscapes, backyard beauty, and animal habitats
- engaging their imagination and natural curiosity about Maine’s flora and fauna
Art Instructor Jeremy Smith credits his career as an artist and teacher of the arts to his own inspirational experiences as both as a camper and counselor at an arts camp in his formative years. Jeremy’s passion for art led him to attain his B.A. in Art Education from Western State College in Colorado, and later to earn his M.Ed. in Curriculum and Teaching through the Arts at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
He enjoys challenging himself with artistic pursuits that include fiber arts, ceramics, photography, painting and drawing. Jeremy has nearly a two decades of experience instructing children and helping them to expand their artistic knowledge as they learn visually about their work and their world. His family lives on Pocasset Lake in Wayne where they enjoy being outside, crafting, drawing from the natural world, creating fantasy characters and creating imaginative stories. He joins us at the Farnsworth this summer to make creative programming that is realistic, challenging and personalized.
