Art Camps at FAM: Drawing Camp with Whitney River
August 1 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Week 3 Morning Session
5 sessions, for ages 8-12, Monday through Friday, August 1-5 from 9 am – 12 pm
Join teaching artist Whitney River this summer for a fun, intensive week of drawing! Students will draw from life, and explore a variety of drawing media and techniques as they develop their ability to render what they see. Each morning will be spent getting familiar with a different drawing medium through exercises, quick studies, and longer projects. Students will also have the opportunity to view the work of other artists’ work in the media we explore through books and reproductions.
Whitney River graduated from Yale University in 1995. Since then she has shown her work extensively throughout New England, and her drawings and paintings are represented in many private and corporate collections. She is inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds her in Maine, both in the woods and by the ocean. She uses oil on canvas and graphite on paper to render found natural objects with great detail and precision.
Please register each camper separately, answering the registration questions for each child. All art materials are provided.
Cost: $225; $200 members

Our Art Camp teachers:
Jennifer Peppe’s adventures as an art educator began in 1996. She launched her teaching career from a busy art room within a colorful, urban, suburban school district. Through the decades, she expanded her skill sets and cultural experiences via study, traveling, and teaching abroad. Years of work with creative learners of all ages and abilities have strengthened her commitment to sharing art with others. She has since followed her love of art and nature and landed in midcoast Maine.
Whitney River has been teaching drawing to students of all ages for three decades. Her paintings and drawings capture her love of the natural world through close observation and careful rendering, and she enjoys sharing this passion with her students. She is a full time artist, teacher, and mother, and finds endless inspiration exploring the Maine beaches and forests.
