Beginning Acrylic Painting with Susan Tobey White

October 11, 2019 @ 10:00 am 4:00 pm

Friday and Saturday, October 11 and 12

There is no one way to begin a painting! This workshop will explore the many ways, from traditional to innovative, to start a painting. Artist and educator Susan Tobey White will cover understanding values, approaches to underpainting, glazing techniques, and very basic color theory. She will encourage a loose approach to application of paint through the use of brushes, palette knife, and printing techniques.

The first day will be an introduction to the techniques and processes of acrylic painting. The second day will be using a large canvas to explore what was learned the day before. It will be fun, messy, and you will leave the workshop with several samples on which you have explored techniques intriguing to you that can be implemented in your own work.

This two-day workshop is appropriate for those transitioning to acrylics from oils, watercolors, or pastels, or for the very beginning painter.

Please bring your lunch, as the instructor often demonstrates during that time.

Susan Tobey White has been a full-time working artist in Maine for the last 17 years. She worked as an elementary art teacher for 15 years, participating in art shows during the summer. Her most recent body of work, Lobstering Women of Maine, is on display at the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport until October 20. View her work online at www.susantobeywhite.com.
