Behind the Scenes of Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth: Rockland Maine

June 28, 2023 @ 7:00 pm 8:00 pm

Wednesday, June 28, 7 p.m., on Zoom

Did you know that the Wyeth Study Center has two locations: at the Farnsworth Art Museum and at Brandywine in Chadds Ford, PA? Leith MacDonald, one of the Brandywine staff based at the Farnsworth, is the curator of an exciting new exhibition there that is the focus of this lively, illustrated virtual conversation. Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth: Rockland, Maine brings together a rarely seen group of watercolors by two iconic American artists in response to a place that inspired both of them with its buildings, landscapes, and historic industries. The show is accompanied by a fully illustrated 80-page catalogue, available now in the museum shop at the Farnsworth. In conversation with Dr. William L. Coleman, the Brandywine’s Wyeth Foundation Curator and Director of the Andrew & Betsy Wyeth Study Center, Leith will share an inside perspective on the exhibition development process and discoveries he made about the linked practice of Hopper and Wyeth along the way.

Leith MacDonald is Assistant Collection Manager in the Andrew & Betsy Wyeth Study Center of the Brandywine Museum of Art. He has curated numerous exhibitions, is President of the board of the Monhegan Artists Residency, and is an artist trained as a woodblock printmaker.
