Between the Lines Poetry Writing Workshop with Kathleen Ellis
August 8, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
$165
Monday through Friday, August 6 to 10, 9 a.m. to noon
In this week-long workshop, we will explore connections between memory and history. How can language assuage or deepen our links to the past? How do these events shape our values and world view? Using Ai Weiwei’s Zodiac Heads exhibit at the museum and local gallery shows, and a range of poetic style and techniques, we will jump-start new poems based on our experience and imagination. Open to intermediate and advanced poets and those who have taken at least two of Ellis’ previous workshops.
Instructor Kathleen Ellis has published five collections of poetry, most recently Outer-Body Travel. She has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and Maine Arts Commission, and poems from her manuscript, Dear Darwin, were set to music and released as a Parma Recordings CD, nominated for a 2015 Grammy Award. She teaches literature and poetry writing at the University of Maine in Orono.
