Capturing the Light with Erica Qualey
January 16 @ 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
Thursdays, January 16 to February 13, 2020
Whether your subject matter is a cool misty morning, a hot and sunny afternoon, or a calm mellow evening, how you depict the light in your painting will say it all. In this class we will concentrate on capturing different types of lighting and how to make it create a variety of moods and atmosphere in your watercolor paintings.
We will build on fundamental watercolor skills such as lost and found edges and layering washes to develop loose and luminous paintings. We’ll also explore the role value and color play in helping you communicate what you want to depict.
Erica Qualey is an artist living in midcoast Maine. She received her BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology and works as an artist, illustrator, and studio instructor. Her work has been exhibited in Maine and New Hampshire and is in private collections throughout the country.
