Celebrating Earth Day through Art and Science
April 22, 2020 @ 10:00 am – 7:00 pm
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the Farnsworth Art Museum and the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) will offer a day of information and inspiration for positive environmental action.
From the beginning of history, humanity has responded to nature both artistically and scientifically, creating different kinds of beauty and knowledge. In response to our current climate crisis, artists and scientists have inspired and sometimes collaborated with each other while looking for innovative ways to inform, engage, and support their larger communities in finding more effective responses and solutions.
Join us for a full day of Earth Day activities that will illuminate the rich relationships between the arts and sciences. A keynote titled “Our Current Climate and How Scientists and Artists Inspire Each Other,” will be held from 5-7 pm at the Farnsworth Auditorium and will feature Paul Mayewski, director of The Climate Change Institute and John Paul Caponigro, artist and Climate Reality Project leader.
