Join John Paul Caponigro, an internationally exhibited artist and published writer, as he leads a special event exploring the intersection of art and writing. Using creative writing, the workshop will savor Emilie Stark-Menneg’s new exhibition Thread of Her Scent, a new series of paintings that reimagines the stories of the unicorn in The Unicorn Tapestries at the MET Cloisters and The Lady and the Unicorn at Musée de Cluny.

In this hour-and-a-half-long event, John Paul will share famous examples of ekphrastic writing and guide participants through a series of writing prompts that are guaranteed to offer you new insights now and in the future. The genre of ekphrastic writing (creative writing in response to art) is currently experiencing a renaissance, deepening and diversifying our enjoyment of art. Poetry’s extreme versatility and brevity make it an ideal form to practice. Bring your favorite tools to write with! The art is sumptuous and the conversation will be lively.

Cost: $10; $8 for members. We will meet in the front lobby.

Please note: Only graphite pencils are allowed in the galleries. Please bring a journal or notebook and a graphite pencil.
