Drawing on the Imagination! Gallery Sketching with Jude Valentine

August 23 @ 2:00 pm 3:30 pm

Lynne Drexler (1928-1999) Untitled, ca. 1959-62 Oil on canvas 81 x 64 ½ inches Gift from the estate of the artist, 2002.15.5 © 2024 Lynne Drexler by permission of The Lynne Drexler Archive
Click here for the September 27th class.

Join us for this interactive gallery experience! We’ll start with a facilitated discussion on abstraction, comparing and contrasting two abstract works on view. Using an example each of Lynne Drexler and Andrew Wyeth’s works, artist and educator Jude Valentine will lead a Visual Thinking Strategies discussion, followed with prompts and pointers to further develop your own drawing and perceiving abilities. Using paper and pencil, you will have time to create a drawing based on the works and your imagination. You do not have to be artistic—only an art lover! No drawing experience is necessary to enjoy this hands-on class!

There will be time at the end to share our drawings and discoveries.

Important to note:

Please bring the following materials with you to the museum: a clipboard or chipboard (smooth cardboard) 9 x 12 inches with bull clips to hold paper in place; several sheets of 8.5 x 11 copy paper; regular yellow pencils with erasers (bring multiple pre-sharpened). Optional: Crayola Washable Colored Pencils (must be exactly this brand)

Cost: $40; $35 for members; open to all ages. Museum admission is included.
