Explore the elements of meaning and storytelling through the most basic form of artistic endeavor: drawing. Discover techniques in charcoal and related materials artist Pam Cabanas has developed through her work, including surface and surface preparations that enhance charcoal to its fullest potential. Depending on weather and class mobility, we will wander on at least one excursion to work en plein air and visit the artist’s Friendship studio. Discussions will include the magic elements of image-making that give meaning and soul to a drawing as well as the historical context of charcoal in art and the poetry of the rock as depicted by artists working in Maine. And yes, our subject will be a rock.
Pam Cabanas is a professional artist living and working in Friendship, Maine. Having graduated from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and holding a postgraduate degree from the University of New Mexico, her images are an expression of life, love, and Maine. A multi talented fine artist working in pastel and ink wash, Cabanas grew up on Long Island, New York. She worked as an educator and production potter before her entrepreneurial spirit led her to own and operate several small businesses in New York before moving to Maine. Her artwork has been exhibited regionally and is held in numerous private collections.
