Explore Shibori Indigo Dyeing with Jackie Ottino

July 30 @ 1:00 pm 4:00 pm

In celebration of the Farnsworth’s June opening of Alvaro’s World which is coming from a private collection in Japan, this one-day adult art-making workshop will explore a variety of dyeing techniques including Shibori, the Japanese resist-dyeing technique that involves twisting cloth and binding it to create a vast array of patterns on fabric.

Our indigo class fee includes a set of 4 napkins for you to dye and take with you, but feel free to bring something from home as well, there will be plenty of dye. Things may get a little messy so wear “ok-to-mess” clothes or bring an apron or smock as well as long kitchen-type/household gloves for deep dunking.

Jackie Ottino is a dyer from mid coast Maine specializing in natural dyes.  For the last 10 years she has been teaching exciting and informative workshops with natural plant materials, using both yarn and cloth.  Her indigo workshops reflect traditional Japanese Shibori style resist patterns and her love for the chemistry of indigo.

Cost: $95; $85 for Farnsworth Members
