Exploring the Accordion Book! with Mj Viano Crowe
May 14 @ 3:00 am – 3:30 am
Two Saturdays, May 7 and 14 from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm (ET), In-person in the downstairs studio of the Gamble Education Center on the campus of the Farnsworth Art Museum
Playing with the possibilities the accordion book format offers, students will explore a variety of folding structures and systems, using mixed media with images and text to tell their unique stories. Session 1 introduces students to simple accordion folding methods, and the opportunity to play with mixed media supplies to visualize possibilities. By the end of the first class, students will create a few simple softcover versions of accordion books, in addition to brainstorming ideas for next week’s projects. In the second session, students return with ideas and more raw material to incorporate into any of their accordion books from Workshop 1, with a better concept of what they might create. Or, students may want to create a new accordion book based on last week’s workshop, but with a clearer idea of what folding system and size to use, and what subject matter they want to address.
A critique/discussion together completes the day!
