Field Sketching Workshop with Sherrie York

June 24, 2019 @ 9:00 am 12:00 pm

Monday through Friday, June 24 to 28

Even if you think you can’t draw a straight line, you can keep visual field notes. Field sketching is a valuable tool for gardeners, journalers, artists, scientists—anyone who wants to know more about the world around them. And in our fast-paced, phone-camera-clicking, social-media-sharing world, a handwritten and illustrated journal can help us to slow down, reflect, and experience the world in a more personal and intimate way. In this workshop, artist Sherrie York will cover several basic drawing and observational skills and techniques, including contour, memory, and gesture drawing. Come explore the Rockland area and fill some blank pages! All abilities welcome.

A suggested materials list will be sent to registrants. You should plan to bring: a sketchbook or journal larger than 7 x 10 inches; pencils, colored pencils, kneaded eraser, and black felt-tip pen; watercolor pencils or a small watercolor set; watercolor brush (size 8 recommended); water and small cup for rinsing brushes; sun and rain gear, drinking water, sunscreen, and insect repellent; a daypack or bag to carry materials; and an optional portable camp stool or chair.

Cost: $195; $165 museum members
