Field Sketching Workshop with Sherrie York

July 30, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

$165

Monday through Friday, July 30 to August 3, 9 a.m. to noon

Field sketching is a valuable tool for artists, scientists, gardeners, journalers, and anyone who wants to know more about the world around them. Even if you think you can’t draw a straight line, you can keep visual field notes. In this workshop, we will cover several basic drawing and observational skills and techniques, including contour, memory, and gesture drawing. Non-artists welcome and encouraged.

Observation is the core of instructor Sherrie York’s work, whether she is making a watercolor sketch of tidbits collected on a neighborhood hike or carving a complex linocut block of pinecones and leaf litter. A self-taught printmaker and compulsive wanderer of landscapes, Sherrie always has a sketchbook or journal close at hand, frequently one that she herself made. Her work has been presented in national and international exhibitions and is represented in corporate and museum collections across the United States. See examples of her work at sherrieyork.com.
