Figure Painting with Katharina Gifford

Learn to see and paint the human figure! After a series of demos, you will begin with exercises using a grisaille, a limited color palette, to clearly represent form and light. Next, using a long pose, we will progress to a highly finished and modeled figure painting. Proportion, color, gesture, anatomy and an understanding of the relationship between large and small forms will be discussed throughout the course.

Katharina Gifford believes that anyone can draw the human figure by learning classical/traditional drawing and painting techniques, and understanding the basic principles of representation. She attended the Maine College of Art and participated in the Intensive Drawing Program at the Florence Academy of Art studying from the model, Bargue drawings, and plaster casts.
