Intaglio Drypoint and Monotype Printing with Jason Engelhardt

October 16, 2017 @ 10:00 am - October 20, 2017 @ 2:00 pm

Work by Jason Engelhardt

Monday through Friday, October 16 to 20, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Come learn the basic intaglio printmaking processes of drypoint and monotype. Using plexiglass plates, non-toxic inks, and a tabletop etching press, the class will cover proper printing techniques in the purist sense, including how to edition an image. Using the drypoint technique, our plexiglass plates will be incised with a hard-pointed “needle” tool, and in the monotype process, we will roll up thin semi-translucent ink on a blank plate and then selectively reduce the rolled-up ink by wiping it away, as desired for the image.  We will explore possibilities of combining these two methods and will utilize color theory to achieve a wider range of colors. The last class will end with a brief group critique. Participants should bring drawings or other imagery that they would like to work from to the first class.

Jason Engelhardt is an artist printmaker with five years’ experience working in fine art print shops and ten years of university teaching. He has a BFA from the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis and an MFA from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

This class has been cancelled due to low enrollment.
