Introduction to Relief Printing Workshop with Sherrie York

April 27, 2019 @ 9:00 am 12:00 pm

Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28

Linocuts, or linoleum block prints, offer countless creative possibilities and can be created with the simplest of tools, entirely by hand, at your kitchen table! Many people recall making block prints in school, but this humble medium need not have been abandoned after 8th grade graduation.

This workshop will cover the basics of image design, block preparation, and printing, with a focus on images from the natural world. On the first day, participants will create a small one-color “sampler” print and design their nature-inspired images for carving and printing on the second day.

Materials fee of $15 includes everything but your creativity and sense of adventure!

A self-taught printmaker and compulsive wanderer of landscapes, Sherrie York has an international reputation for lyrical and expressive works on paper. Observation is the core of her practice, whether she is making a watercolor sketch of tidbits collected along the shore or carving a complex linocut block of pinecones and leaf litter. Her work has been presented in national and international exhibitions and is represented in corporate and museum collections.
