Painter’s Forum and Masterclass with Rob Pollien

On Zoom, Fridays Jan. 19, Jan. 26, Feb. 2., Feb. 9, 10 am-2 pm

The Painter’s Forum enters its fourth year bringing painters together to meet, talk, learn and share their journey as we examine the language of painting and explore critical thought.

Course topics will cover composition, color theory, paint handling and pictorial space. There will be an emphasis on observational work although all are welcome.

Each class begins with an in-depth group critique and discussion of ongoing participants’ work, addressing practical steps related to problem solving, becoming artistically “unstuck”, and how to develop more effective painting language. Classes will also include a guided assignment for the coming week and a PowerPoint presentation to provide examples and inspiration.

Instructor Rob Pollien earned his MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. In 2019, he was one of Acadia National Park’s Resident Artists. Robert has received support from the Ludwig Vogelstein Foundation, the Monhegan Artists’ Residency Corporation, the Joseph A. Fiore Art Center at Rolling Acres Farm, and the Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts. He has also been awarded the Maine Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship for painting. His paintings are in numerous corporate, public, and private collections. He is represented by Dowling Walsh Gallery in Rockland, the Littlefield Gallery in Winter Harbor, Maine, and Artemis Gallery in Northeast Harbor, Maine. He teaches at the University of Maine in Orono.

Suggested materials: Titanium White, yellow ochre, cadmium yellow light, Ultramarine Blue, Phthalo Blue, Viridian, Raw Umber, Ivory black, Turpenoid or odorless solvent for brush cleaning, Stand oil or gel medium,  paper towels, nitrile (or similar) gloves. And a few #4 and #6 natural bristle flat brushes, disposable or other palette, palette knife. Canvas Pad, 10 Sheets 14″ × 18″ or similar.
