Painting in Watercolor, Part I with Erica Qualey

January 12, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

$198

Fridays, January 12 through February 16, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Painting with watercolor can be such a fun experience with the right tools and understanding of its nature. During this class we will focus on painting from observation and learning to embrace its qualities to help express mood and the overall feeling you want to portray. We will practice designing strong compositions, choosing good reference photos, building and layering dynamic washes, and how to bring a painting to completion. Our time will be packed full of demonstrations showing multiple approaches and techniques that can help you loosen up and have fun with your art.

This class is open to artists at all different levels of abilities and experience, however some basic painting experience would be helpful. Participants should bring a selection of reference photos to use as inspiration during class. Participants may opt to participate in an extension of this class, Painting in Watercolor, Part II with Erica Qualey, which will take place on Fridays, March 2 through 23, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Erica Qualey is an artist living in midcoast Maine. She received her BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology and works as an artist, illustrator, and studio instructor. Her work has been exhibited in Maine and New Hampshire and is in private collections throughout the country.  View examples of her work here.
