Plein Air Painting Watercolor Series with Erica Qualey: Workshop 2
June 9, 2021 @ 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Workshop 2: Capture Light and Mood
Wednesday, June 9 via Zoom, 10 am to 12 pm and 1 to 3 pm
Thursday, June 10 on location, 8 am to 12 pm
Friday, June 11 on location, 8 am to 1 pm
This series consists of six intensive watercolor workshops where participants will be immersed in painting plein-air in watercolor. Each workshop can be taken individually, or as a series as each workshop has a different focus and subject matter.
This is a hybrid workshop series where the Wednesdays session will be virtual, offered via Zoom, and will cover all group instruction and demonstration. The Thursday and Friday sessions will be offered in person, painting in the best studio space ever… the great outdoors!
Each workshop will be held at a different outdoor location in the Rockland-Camden area. In case of inclement weather, the class will meet at the barn at Aldemere Farm in Rockport.
Wednesday sessions are 4 hours via Zoom, from 10 am to 12 pm and from 1 to 3 pm with one hour for lunch. The virtual session will cover the basics plus more advanced techniques, strategies and composition tools that we will use over the following two days to create our plein air paintings. In addition, a full painting demonstration will be presented on how to apply the techniques we covered. We will look closely at how to choose a location, capture light and atmosphere, and how to simplify what we see.
Thursday and Friday sessions will be on location with the student receiving one-on-one instruction while painting independently. Each day will conclude with an informal critique.
During the on location class, COVID precautions will be maintained with mask-wearing and social distancing to ensure a safe environment for all.
This class is designed both for beginners and those with some experience. Each three-day workshop can be purchased individually or as a set of all six for a 15% discount.
