School Vacation Week Art Camp with Avis Turner

February 21, 2017 @ 9:00 am - February 23, 2017 @ 12:00 pm

$77 – $95

In this 3-day art camp during the February vacation week, kids ages 6 to 8 years are invited to join teaching artist Avis Turner for an exploration of art, music, poetry, and stories. Together, we’ll do a fabric weaving inspired by the book The Spider Weaver: The Story of Kenti Cloth, and create a crayon-resist watercolor landscape with African animals inspired by book Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain—as well as explore other stories, art techniques, and ideas.

Avis Turner is an artist and educator with degrees childhood development and art education, as well as an MFA in sculpture. She has over 25 years of teaching experience in both public and private school settings, and studied the Reggio Emilia Atelier approach at Smith College and at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art. In this model, students are encouraged to be “constructors of knowledge” and “protagonists of their own learning”. Her specialty is in early childhood development.

Cost: 95; $77 members (includes $5 materials fee)
