Techniques in Watercolor Painting with Katharine Cartwright

Monday through Friday, July 22 to 26

Beginner and intermediate artists will explore and improve watercolor painting techniques in application, removal, and texture. Instruction also will include an introduction to the physical properties and limitations of surfaces, paints, and brushes. Daily class time will be divided into two sessions: two hours of instruction and demonstration in the morning and three hours of experimentation by students with instructor input in the afternoon.

Katharine A. Cartwright is an internationally recognized artist whose paintings are included in hundreds of private and corporate collections. Cartwright received academic training in studio art from Kutztown University, The College of Charleston, and The Maryland Institute College of Art. She holds signature status to the National Watercolor Society, The Northeast Watercolor Society, and the Missouri Watercolor Society. Winning top awards in both national and international watercolor competitions, Cartwright’s work appears in publications such as Visual Artist, A Walk into Abstracts, Best of America Watermedia Artists, v. 2, Artistic Touch 4, Pratique des Artes, Professional Artist Magazine,and American Scientist. Many of her paintings have been included in touring exhibitions throughout the United States and China. More recently, she acted as creative consultant on the large exterior mural designed for the new Mid-Coast School of Technology building in Rockland. Cartwright’s work is on display at The State House in Augusta, Maine, for the 2019 summer, and also at the Michael Good Gallery in Rockport in August. She is an annual exhibiting member of the Port Clyde Art Gallery. Cartwright lives and paints in Spruce Head, Maine.
