The Collage Artist as Storyteller with Katherine Minott

July 11 @ 10:00 am 3:00 pm

Join us for an invigorating class full of creativity, lively discussion, and hands-on art making. This engaging class is an invitation to create intriguing and surreal dreamscapes. With paper, glue, and scissors, you’ll tell a story–one imaginary or real. Relying on intuition, other times intention, you’ll choose your cast of characters, inviting them to engage with each other and/or with objects in the scene. This type of narrative collage invites viewers to make interpretations and connections, and to consider a particular plot or the unfolding of an event. It’s an exciting way to let your unconscious speak and to give voice to your limitless imagination.

All levels welcome!

Katherine Minott, M.A., is an artist in love with the utter simplicity and potent possibility of analog collage (made with paper, scissors, glue–nothing digital). She finds inspiration from an array of resources–natural history illustrations from the 1800s, Gray’s Anatomy, a 100-year old Braille bible–and creates 2D dreamscapes. Now a full-time visual artist, she spends many hours immersed in the forest and along the rugged coastline.

Katherine is an experienced teacher; for over 18 years, she instructed college students in the fine art of writing. Via alternative teaching delivery methods and opportunities, she taught a wide variety of student populations: incarcerated teens and adults, troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and an incoming class of state police recruits.  Katherine also plied her craft as a freelance magazine writer, profiling one of the Discovery Channel’s hit stars, Cody Lundin of Dual Survival

Katherine has received awards for her work which has been highlighted in numerous publications such as The Sun and New England Review, as well as in private and corporate collections, including the Boston Children’s Hospital. Her website of collages and fine art photography can be viewed at katherineminott.com.
