The Writing On The Wall Poetry Writing Workshop with Kathleen Ellis
July 28 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm EDT
Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 19 and 21; July 26 and 28
10 am to 12 noon
How does poetry allow us to express our fears of a world in crisis? Using the palms of our hands and the cartography of graffiti, in this two-week live Zoom workshop with poet Kathleen Ellis, we will create our own “writings on the wall” to open new spaces and pursue new forms as they offer consolation and meaning in a difficult time. Using the museum’s exhibits and diverse poetic styles, we will generate poems for critique in a supportive environment. Poets and visual artists of all levels welcome. Limited to 12
Kathleen Ellis’ most recent poetry collection is Outer-Body Travel. Recipient of poetry fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Maine Arts Commission, she has led poetry writing workshops at the Farnsworth since 1994. She teaches poetry and creative writing at the University of Maine, Orono, and new poems are in Café Poetry Review and A Dangerous New World: Maine Voices on the Climate Crisis.
