This immersive experience delves deep into techniques for capturing brilliant light and intricate shadows. Learn how to show the mesmerizing interplay between light and shadow to create captivating watercolor paintings filled with luminosity and depth. You will explore the relationships between color values and learn how to apply them, allowing you to infuse your paintings with mood and atmosphere. Through mastering the art of color mixing and balanced value, you will be able to infuse depth into your shadows. Explore the difference between light direction and atmosphere in light patterns, gaining valuable insights into how they influence composition, shape, and form. Through hands-on instruction, you will discover the nuanced methods for painting various shadow types and harnessing the power of value to depict diverse lighting scenarios.

Erica Qualey is an award-winning watercolor artist and teacher who lives in Midcoast Maine. Erica has exhibited internationally, and is represented in private collections throughout the United States and Canada. She is a signature member of the New England Watercolor Society and has been published in the 19th edition of the yearly publication, Splash. She has led workshops for adults at Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, ArtWaves DMI on Mount Dessert Island, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deere Isle, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and other art associations. Erica has also participated in visiting artist programs in public schools and has run art programming for children through her local library.

Some experience with watercolor will be helpful.
