WRITING OUT THE STORM- A Poetry Writing Workshop with Kathleen Ellis

Event Series Event Series (See All)

August 13 @ 9:00 am 12:00 pm

How does poetry allow us to both write & ride out the storms in our lives and in the world? In this three-day workshop, we will widen our ability to react to a perilous world and pursue possibilities for change in voice, subject matter, and form. Using the museum’s current exhibit on Marsden Hartley and the Sea, other exhibits, and diverse poetic styles, we will generate new poems in a supportive environment. Poets and visual artists of all levels welcome.

Kathleen Ellis’ new collection of poems, Body of Evidence, won the 2022 Grayson Books poetry award. Other recent collections are Outer-Body Travel and Narrow River to the North. Her poems have appeared in numerous literary magazines and anthologies, such as The Café ReviewA Dangerous New World: Maine Voices on the Climate Crisis; and Enough!: Poems of Resistance and Protest. A recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Maine Arts Commission, and the Pablo Neruda Prize from Nimrod, Ellis teaches poetry and creative writing at the University of Maine, Orono and coordinates the annual POETS/SPEAK! event in Bangor. She has taught poetry writing workshops at the Farnsworth Art Museum since 1993.
