About First Fridays

Join us as we prepare for an exhilarating journey through art, culture, and community at the much-anticipated First Fridays at the Farnsworth–now happening all year long.

First Fridays at the Farnsworth will delight and surprise visitors with unique programming themed to our exhibitions and offering a variety of activities for people of all ages and interests. Sample locally made food and drink. Meet the artists behind the work and learn about their process. Try your hand at an art making activity. Each month, we present the best of Maine’s art and cultural scene.

First Fridays at the Farnsworth are made possible through a grant from Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All, a three-year initiative to increase access to museums across America. The Farnsworth is one of 64 museums across the country to bring this program to their community. Access for All underwrites admission and provides funding to extend the museum’s programming, marketing, and outreach.

“We’ll welcome visitors free of charge every month of the year who might not normally come to the museum,” said Christopher J. Brownawell, Director.

Embracing the spirit of collaboration and community, many Rockland galleries, businesses, and restaurants will also stay open later, creating a lively cultural scene for Rockland and furthering its reputation as the Art Capital of Maine!
