About the oil painting:
This large canvas of freely painted, amorphous shapes of color connects Pace to the second generation of Abstract Expressionists. His works have been descried as a “pure sensation of space…a sensation of being surrounded by what one sees in them.” Pace discovered Maine in 1952 and has summered every year since in Stonington on Deer Isle.
Featured in “Maine and American Art: Farnsworth Art Museum” with thanks to the Henry Luce Foundation and Wyeth Foundation for American Art.
