Description
Over the years Porter returned as much as possible to Great Spruce Head Island, Maine to paint and to gather there during summers with family and friends. His reality, manifest in his paintings, became the light-filled canvases of the places and people with whom he shared his days. In describing his relationship to painting, he put it simply: “it’s a way of making the connection between yourself and everything.”
Completed during his last summer on Great Spruce Head Island, The Dock was one of several versions of the familiar harbor view that he refined over the decades.
