Description
One of Jamie’s earliest Monhegan paintings, it shows a bronze bell, greenish from its long exposure to the elements, perched on a hilltop overlooking the sea. Formally a bell the warned seafarers away from the island’s dangerous shores, it stands as a sentinel from a bygone era, suggested by its title, the name of an ancient period.
