Rockland has become known as The Art Capital of Maine, owing to its 2 splendid museums and more than 20 exceptional galleries, but for far longer it has also been known as the lobster center of Maine, and every August hosts the 4-day Lobster Festival which attracts over 25,000 hungry visitors to the town.

Rockland has also recently been called one of the “20 Best Small Towns to Visit” by the Smithsonian, and received the honor of being named to the National Historic Trust’s “Dozen Distinctive Destinations.”

But Rockland is more than great art and great lobster.  With its authentic working waterfront, its superb dining experiences (which include two restaurants which recently won James Beard awards), Rockland is truly a must-visit experience for all.  Add to that the plethora of enjoyable outdoor experiences such as sailing, hiking and golfing, Rockland should be at the center of your Maine visiting or vacationing adventure.
