Status:   Full time, salary, year round

General Description: The Visitor Services and Store Manager sets the standard for the visitor’s experience in both the museum and the museum store. Responsibilities include providing direction to both teams, managing cash drawer reconciliation and assisting with purchasing and merchandising the store. Providing exceptional customer service is essential. Duties include writing schedules, performing annual inventory, product development and providing clear direction to the teams. The ideal candidate has five years’ experience managing a retail store along with buying and merchandising items that reflect the exhibitions in the museum. Processing shipments and reconciling invoices are important skills as well. This position works with a variety of departments but most closely with the Finance staff, Security and Maintenance teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the opening and closing of the store
  • Develop and implement procedures necessary to insure proper cash handling and inventory control
  • Verify daily monetary reconciliation and bank deposits, retail and wholesale deposits
  • Assure prompt processing of mail inquiries, phone orders, internet inquiries and orders, and merchandise returns
  • Approve billing of merchandise after receiving and send appropriate paperwork to the Finance office for payment
  • Handle correspondence with sales representatives and vendors
  • Partner with DOO on purchasing all museum store merchandise
  • Track and reconcile expenditures to CFO
  • Responsible for all other areas of sales, pop up shop, Wyeth Center etc.
  • Oversee the receiving and stocking of store merchandise
  • Attend gift shows in preparation for purchasing new inventory
  • In partnership with DOO, determine pricing, markdowns and place reorders
  • Produce daily, monthly and annual store income reports
  • Conduct an accurate physical inventory of all merchandise annually
  • Partner with DOO on product development
  • Determine and implement promotional calendar
  • Display store merchandise in an attractive manner
  • See that the store and admissions is properly staffed through appropriate scheduling
  • Provide training for all store staff
  • Supervise staff of 5 – 12 people

Qualifications:

Five years’ experience in retail sales/management
Administrative/supervisory skills including personnel and budgetary experience
Strong math skills
Excellent organizational skills
Computer literate
Sales experience
Buying and Merchandising experience

Physical Demands:

Able to stand and walk for several hours
Able to lift and carry twenty pounds
Able to reach high items with the use of a ladder
Able to reach low items leaning or bending over
